What in the World…..

Feeling a bit frustrated that the rest of the world is watching the free United States debate over not only whether health care should be provided to all, but what the cost of that cost should be.
Wonder how the opinion of this country may change as the world turns? Wonder if other nations are asking how it is that the US, Superpower, will not do what is needed to care for their own poor and hungry? Even as we send troops, aid, food, and money to others all around the world.

I live in a statistically republican state and the banter that comes from the capital here is criminal! There could be a strong argument made for gross negligence (Gross negligence - is a legal concept which means serious carelessness.)on the part of lawmakers as a result of the anxiety and fear caused by claims and statements that are being shared with the constituents and the media.

There are long term benefits to consider in this debate on providing healthcare coverage. Public health and safety are the biggest reasons why the reform is needed, but it is not the only reason. Other reasons might include those related to spiritual responsibilities and the future of our country.

It is our spiritual duty to care for the “least of these” or those who can not care for themselves. The poor will always be with us. What ever faith a person acknowledges this is a probable tenant of the belief system. How we care for the least of these is just as important as providing the coverage.

Then there is the future of our country…what does it look like if the % of impoverished kids and young adults, and adults who we are counting on to lead us into the this future, that every political front points to, is without healthcare and this % is greater than the % of kids, young adults, and adults who find themselves more than above the poverty level and have health care and access to healthcare.

It quickly gets distorted that there is a desire to take wealth away from people, who wants to take wealth away, I certainly don’t! I am working as fast as I can to gain wealth. Most folks want to believe that if they work hard and are healthy that they too can have a bit of wealth, this is what I believe. This doesn’t speak to fairness, taxation and the differences that tear folks apart, what I do hope that these words do is lend an understanding, to those who are more than resistant to any plan that provides healthcare coverage to all, that this investment into fabric of our country now, is one that will yield high returns for years and generations to come.

Resisting the healthcare reform could be considered a divestment from this country, because by saying no to the reform or delaying the implantation of the reform there are folks whose health will be directly impacted and with that, their ability to work, care for their families, make a contribution to society, and pay taxes is diminished. This hurts us all and our pockets.

I would urge all that are feeling uncomfortable about the steps that are being taken, to consider the 6 degrees of separation that are between most of us and really understand all of the impacts that this reform may have on those around you and what the weights of these impacts are. I offer that you will be hard pressed to find anyone within your six degrees of separation who would not be helped by this reform.
